I thought I'd hop on today and talk about resetting yourself after taking a break.
For those of you who are not the UK and don't know about this stuff.
Here in the UK, we've just had a bank holiday Thursday and a bank holiday Friday to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee, 70 years of service. Some people celebrated for the whole four days, some people didn't celebrate. But there was a break.
And I know a lot of small business owners took that time off. And so today are coming back to work. And I wanted to actually this is kind of irrelevant. If you've actually I know some people took like, a whole week off of social media. Some people have taken a month off social media, if you are somebody who has taken a break, and you want to know about how you can get back started in a really positive way that I'm hoping this live will be helpful for you.
So the first thing I'm going to suggest you do on a Monday, I mean that I'm I'm an avid diary user, and I plan out my week, because I've got a terrible memory. So actually, it's good for me to write down what I've got coming up in the week so that I don't forget things, right. But beyond that, I also set goals. And this is going to be something that's really good for anyone who's coming back to work on a Monday after a long break, or just coming back off of a there's my dog in the background off of a long break in their business is to start by looking at what your goals are, right?
What What are your long term goals for your business? Right? What are you actually working towards? And then you can break that down to quarterly goals. Right. So what are you actually working on this quarter? I mean, we are oh my goodness, sorry. We are end to this month coming up to the end of another quarter, it'd be the end of the second quarter. Do you have quarterly goals? Do you have yearly goals? Actually, do you have monthly or weekly goals? Start with looking at whatever your big term goals are. And then chunking those backwards into much smaller goals, which will help you figure out how to get started to really think about what do I need to do to be most productive with my time versus sitting at the computer pretending I'm working. And you know, really all I'm doing is jumping between screens, or I'm scrolling on social media. So having a clear set of goals, I actually have my goals up on my notice board, which is behind this laptop. And so I can see what I'm working towards. I also have a weekly content planner, which helps keep me on track. So I know what to talk about. And that I don't ever feel lost or like I don't have something to say, because I can look at that content planner and instantly get inspiration about what I could be talking about on social media. So start with your goals in mind. And once you're clear about that, that should give you some really good pointers about where to start when we talk about restarting our business from scratch again. So look at what your business goals are. And if you haven't got any, then you really need to create some to help keep you on track. Good morning, Bill. It's nice to see you.
So the second thing I would say that you could do if you want to move this dog out of the way. The second thing that you can do, come on baby. If you kind of want to restart your business, a lovely thing that you could do is reintroduce yourself again, on your email list. Right? This is a nice thing to do if you're not particularly active in your emails, even if you are active, but you've had a week off or a couple of weeks off, reintroduce yourself, remind people who you are what you do, and perhaps talk about your break. What did you do in your break? You know, how did you spend that time, it's likely that what you took time off to do will resonate with your ideal audience as well, and people who are on your list. So let them a little bit into your world and let them know about what you've been up to as well. And then another thing you can do as you return back to work this week from either a short break and a short four day weekend break or a longer break if you've had a longer break is that you have to start building trust again with your followers with your audience. So you know sharing posts of value sharing posts of interest with your people so that they can kind of you know reconnect with you and it really helps you build up that trust with them by you showing up and talking about things that they are interested in. Not you. But what they are interested in, will help to build up that trust factor, which is super important. As small business owners, we need to have that trust with our, with our audience. And then the last thing is being really intentional with your time. As we come back, it's a Monday you're sat at your desk, there's going to be a lot of things floating through your brain about what you could be doing.
But my best advice to you is to be really, really intentional with your time. And if you have to make lists, make lists, and then put things into categories. Are they productive things that you are doing on focusing on? Or are they money making things that you're focusing on? Or are they actually time wasting things that you're spending time on, when we can assess where we are spending our time, it helps us to move forward a lot quicker. So and it also shows us, it also shows us where where we're slacking. So if I don't if okay, I'm a small business owner, and I don't have a lot of money coming in, I need to look at my money making activities, what are they write those down. If you don't have a list of the things that actually make you money, there's money making activities, that would be a task to do today.
Write down what your money making activities are, and then ask yourself, how often or how frequently am i doing those tasks that are generating the money? Or am I spending most of my time doing other things that are not generating me money, right, so we have to be really intentional about how we use our time as small business owners. So that's my little top list of things to help you get started with a reset after a break. Hope you found them useful. And I'll be back later on in the week with some more handy coaching tips for you. Enjoy your Monday and I will see you soon
